You can't change the pattern at all. All patterns are shown when lit. It doesn't sit well on the table because the cord is in the way to project your images on anything but a wall straight ahead. I order a lot from this company and this product was a disappointment. My order was fine every other way - timely delivery, price was great but just product was not very good.
